The National Endowment for the Arts (Funarte) opens on 24 November at the cultural space CentoeQuatro in Belo Horizonte, the fourth exhibition in the series “From the Street: image, art and action.” The show Street as a place of living promotes an encounter between the Poro (composed Brigida Campbell and Marcelo Tuesday Nothing) Daniel Escobar and Shima. Admission is free.

The exhibition proposes a reflection on the impermanence of material and images in towns and on how these elements interfere with the urban landscape and the processes of communication. Escobar, Shima and Poro moving the public’s perception of their activities overlap and occupations, which alter the shape and quality of materials used. From the possibilities of participation of the viewer, other layers of meaning are accumulated. The show, which has support from the Cultural CentoeQuatro and is curated by Janaina Melo, runs until December 20, 2009.

In his installation, Daniel Escobar uses bands of advertisements in the air, in which texts are cut, offering further possibilities for reading. On the ground, the letters taken from the tracks form a cell expressing the accumulation of information that we trample on a daily basis. Shima presents his new work “Between Us (Between Nodes)”, performed with bags of trash, filled with balloons float. As the balloons burst or lose gas, the bags and settle down in the exhibition space. Also part of the show work “Containment” in which ribbons zebra create new spaces, and performance “Go Blind”, the artist will make the opening of the event.

Miner Poro displays a series of photographic records of interventions in abandoned houses and lots in the cities of Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte, between 2008 and 2009. They also perform an intervention with paper tiles.

With a series of exhibitions “The Street”, the Funarte want to contribute to the debate on the institutionalization of painting, street and urban intervention – languages in recent years, jumped the walls of cities to galleries, museums and cultural centers. The first two shows, called “The Street: what is this painting?”, Opened in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in May 2009, dealt mainly with issues relating to the graphite.
